A victory in the Philippines

A top-level Abu Sayyaf leader was nabbed recently, Philippines President Gloria Arroyo announced today. Radulan Sahiron, a “very notorious leader” of the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group (with ties to al-Qaeda) was linked to several kidnappings, including the April 2000 abduction of 21 Western tourist and Asian workers from Malaysia.

He was also wanted for the deaths of two Americans who were kidnapped in 2001. One of those two was missionary Martin Burnham. Sahiron, along with current Abu Sayyaf leader Khadaffy Janjalini is one of five terrorist leaders wanted by the U.S. for those deaths.

He was captured in a special police operation in Zamboanga Sibugay, where police say he was hiding. He will be flown to Manila on Sunday. The Philippine government had offered a $90,000 reward for his capture.
